Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers to help you get started

Who are the helpers at Job2Student?

Many of our helpers are enrolled students at universities or colleges. They bring valuable experience from part-time jobs, internships, and student activities, and stand out for their commitment and sense of responsibility.
In addition, we also work with young people over 18, such as school graduates, trainees, and young professionals who show the same motivation, reliability, and dedication.

How does the booking work?

It’s simple: Post your job request on Job2Student, receive applications within a short time, and choose the right student. You agree on the details directly with the student, and payment is made after the job is completed.

The difference between short-term and long-term jobs?

Short-term jobs are one-time or very limited assignments – for example, moving assistance, a one-off cleaning, or babysitting for an evening. They usually last only a few hours or days and provide quick, flexible support.

Long-term jobs, on the other hand, are regular or ongoing tasks, such as weekly tutoring, continuous office support, or recurring childcare. These jobs run over several weeks or months and enable a reliable collaboration with the same student. The job posting remains online for 5 weeks after the start date, until the employer finds a suitable helper.

How does payment work?

You pay the student helper(s) directly after the job is completed – usually in cash or by bank transfer, depending on what you agreed on in advance.

Is it free for employers?

Creating an account and posting jobs is free. Only when a successful match is made do you pay a small placement fee to Job2Student, plus the agreed wage directly to the student.

Can I post custom jobs?

Yes. You can describe exactly what you need (e.g., administrative help, logistics, moving assistance, event support, tutoring, gardening, etc.) and students will apply if they are interested.

How fast can I get help?

Very quickly – in many cases, you’ll receive applications within hours. For urgent jobs, helpers are often available the same or next day.

What if I’m not satisfied with the work?

If expectations are not met, you only need to pay for the hours worked. You can also leave a review for transparency and hire another student next time.

Are students background checked?

We verify all student registrations. Employers also benefit from ratings left by other users, so you can choose reliable and trustworthy helpers.

Is my data kept confidential?

Yes, of course. Your data is kept safe and is only shared with selected students when necessary for the job placement. We never pass it on to third parties.

Can I hire more than one student at once?

Yes! For bigger tasks (like moving, events, or large cleaning jobs) you can request several students at the same time.

What types of jobs can I post?

You can post short-term or long-term jobs: moving help, cleaning, furniture assembly, babysitting, tutoring, gardening, office support, event assistance, and more.

How much do I pay students?

The usual hourly wage is between €15–20 depending on the task, city, and time (evenings/weekends may include a small surcharge). Payment is agreed on before the job.

Do I need a business account?

No. Private individuals can post jobs easily. Companies can also register and receive invoices (with VAT if applicable).

Are students insured while working?

Job2Student is a pure placement platform. Students are usually covered by their own liability insurance or health insurance. For regular employment, you should register them officially (e.g., via Minijob-Zentrale).

Can I book recurring help?

Yes. Many employers book students for regular jobs such as weekly cleaning, tutoring, or ongoing office support.

What if a student cancels at the last minute?

You can select another student available in the waiting list or repost your job immediately to find a replacement. Last-minute cancellations are rare since students care about maintaining good ratings.

How can I cancel a booking?

Simply inform the helper in good time, ideally at least 24 hours in advance, so they can adjust their schedule. Please note: after a successful placement, the placement fee remains payable even if you cancel.

How does payment work?

You get paid directly by the employer after the job is completed. Payment is usually in cash or via bank transfer, depending on what you agree on beforehand.

Is it free for students?

Yes! Registering and applying for jobs is completely free. You only earn money – there are no hidden costs for you.

Can I choose custom jobs?

Absolutely. You can browse all available jobs and decide which ones fit your schedule, skills, and preferences.

How fast can I start working?

Often the same day! Many employers look for immediate help, so you can start working as soon as you accept a job.

What if I’m not satisfied with the job?

If something doesn’t match the description, you can contact us. You’re never forced to continue with an unsuitable job.

Do I need to pay any fees to join?

No, signing up is 100% free for students.

Can I set my own hourly rate?

Employers usually suggest a rate, but especially for a long-term job you can negotiate before accepting the job.

Do I need prior experience?

Not necessarily. Many jobs (like moving help or cleaning) don’t require  experience. For tutoring or language lessons, subject knowledge is recommended.

How many jobs can I take?

As many as you want – there’s no limit.

Am I insured while working?

Job2Student is a pure placement platform. We recommend private liability insurance. Employers are responsible for safe working conditions.

What happens if an employer cancels at the last minute?

If an employer cancels, you can apply for other available jobs right away. We also encourage employers to cancel early.

Can I build a profile with reviews?

Yes. After each job, employers can rate your work. Positive reviews increase your chances of getting more jobs.

Can international students also join?

Yes, as long as you have a valid residence permit and are legally allowed to work in Germany.
